Hale (Edward Everett) is born in Boston.

April 3, 1822

The son of Nathan and Sarah (Everett) Hale and grandson of the Revolutionary War hero, Edward Everett Hale is born near today’s 60 School Street, graduates from Boston Latin School and Harvard College, is ordained a minister in 1842, and serves as a minister initially in Washington, D.C. and Worcester. He returns to Boston and serves as pastor of the South Congregational Church (1856*-1889), and lives at 69 Worcester Street, then 12 Morley Street. Hale becomes a well-known writer and serves as chaplain of the U.S. Senate. He dies in Roxbury on June 10, 1909.
